India’s First Tempered Glass Factory in Noida – Key Highlights

  1. Historic Launch in Noida

    • Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated India’s first tempered glass factory in Noida on 30 August 2025.

    • This marks a big leap towards the “Make in India” initiative and India’s electronics self-reliance journey.

  2. Partnership Between Optiemus & Corning

    • Optiemus Electronics Ltd., in collaboration with Corning Inc. (world’s largest mobile glass maker), established the factory.

    • This partnership brings advanced mobile tempered glass technology to India.

  3. Investment & Production Capacity

    • Phase 1 Investment: ₹70 Crore, with an initial capacity of 25 million tempered glass units per year.

    • Phase 2 Expansion: ₹800 Crore additional investment, scaling up to 200 million units annually.

    • Total Investment: ₹870 Crore in Noida tempered glass facility.

  4. Job Creation & Employment Impact

    • Phase 1 will generate 600 direct jobs.

    • Phase 2 will create 4,500 more direct jobs, boosting India’s electronics manufacturing employment sector.

  5. Domestic & Global Market Supply

    • Tempered glass will be branded as “Engineered by Corning”.

    • Supply will cater to both Indian smartphone manufacturers and the global export market.

    • Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that India will soon manufacture every component of a smartphone, including Made-in-India chips.

    • India’s tempered glass market size is valued at ₹20,000 crore, with demand exceeding 50 crore pieces annually.

    • The global tempered glass market is estimated at $60 billion (₹5.28 lakh crore).

    • In the last decade, India’s electronics manufacturing capacity grew 6 times to ₹11.5 lakh crore.

    • Exports reached ₹3 lakh crore, creating jobs for 25 lakh people.

      • Goal is to ensure every Indian mobile user uses Made-in-India tempered glass.
